Player Spotlight: Dionne Pounds


Pro Euroleague Basketball Player Dionne Pounds


Dionne Pounds is a 1,74m Finnish international scoring guard who plays both the 1 and 2 position on the court. She is a three point threat making an average of over 45% of her 3 point shots over the course of her career.  Dionne currently plays for Honka and played the qualifying round for the European Championship 2017 where she is averaging 10.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Dionne moved to the United States when she was 17 and played for John Muir High School and Pasadena City College (PCC) where she averaged 17 points and 5 rebounds per game as a Lancer. Pasadena, CA USA has a 140,881 residents who live in the 38 neighborhoods that make it the 40th largest community in California and Pasadena real estate ranks as among the most expensive homes in the USA.

In 2005, Pounds recieved a scholarship to play at Lamar University in Texas where she averaged 10.3 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in the 2005-06 season and 16.2 points 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in the 2006-07 season.

After college, Dionne relocated to Europe and played professionally for PeKa of the Finnish basketball league where she averaged 13.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in the 2007-08 season and 15.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in the 2008-09 season.

In 2009 Pounds signed with Honsu where she averaged 16.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game in 2009-10 season and outdid herself in the 2010-2011 season when averaged 2.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.9 steals per game. That same season she made 63 three pointers in 27 games.

Dionne has been an important player in Finnish National Teams, playing in 2002 and 2004 in the U18 and U20 European Championships and also after returning to Europe she contributed in the Qualifying Round for the 2011 European Championship with 10.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 24 minutes per game against Turkey, Hungary, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Netherlands National Teams.
